As the ‘good news’ on Portugal’s virus situation is being discussed this afternoon, INSA (public health institute) expert Baltazar Nunes has confirmed that the country now has the lowest rate of transmission in Europe – an Rt number of 0.67. Cases of the British variant are plateauing, the meeting has heard, while laboratory testing has flagged seven cases of the Brazilian variant.
The ‘magic’ number of around 200 patients in intensive care is on course to be attained by end March, adds Baltazar Nunes.
