Portugal is EU country where gender inequality over pay has most increased

Hot-on-the-heels of International Women’s Day comes the dismal news that Portugal is the European country where gender inequality over pay has most increased. In fact, it has increased by 3.8% since the start of the economic crisis – outstripping values in other (depressed) Latin countries like Spain and Italy. Portuguese women now earn an average of 13% less than men and the government is now working hard to tackle the problem.

One of the measures involves setting targets for companies so that by 2018 women should make up 30% of boardroom staff.
