This is a sentence attributed to a 30-year-old Ukrainian refugee and mother of a one-year old baby who has told journalists in Romania that she is thinking of travelling to Portugal with her 73-year-old mother as Portugal is “the furthest place possible from Putin’s aggressions”. It wouldn’t work as a slogan, but it speaks volumes, and shows how this little country on the edge of Europe is being appreciated by people running for their lives. The Association of Ukrainians in Portugal is asking all Portuguese to put a Ukrainian flag in onw of their windows “for peace”, and is asking manufacturers to start making them, so that they become readily available for this purpose.
