Portugal in favour of barring Russians from entering EU

João Gomes Cravinho, Portugal’s minister for foreign affairs, has said the government is in favour of barring Russians from entering the EU, in principle. In other words, it should not be a total ban, as Europe’s beef with Russia is not with its people, but its regime for invading the sovereign country of Ukraine and committing war crimes. The ban is being called for by Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy and backed by various other European countries. A formal decision by the bloc however is unlikely to be swift as France and Germany particularly are not in favour.
