Portugal is in 5th place on the table of European countries with the longest working days. Greece leads the table, with 13% of workers putting in 49-plus hours per week (when the European average is just 7.3% of workers on this kind of timetable). According to Eurostat, 9.4% of Portuguese workers have ‘prolonged working hours’ – meaning they work 49 or more hours per week, which is nine hours more than is technically legal.
