Portugal has one of “world’s 10 best designed bus stations”

The HQ of bus company Arriva in Guimarães (pictured) has been included in a list of the “world’s best designed bus stations for 2016” posted online by UK design specialists Design Curial.

“This bus station looks anything but with its sleek and contemporary design,” author Katherine Houston wrote.

Designed by Ricardo Vieira de Melo of RVDM Arquitectos, the Edifícios Portugueses station was created to solve logistical issues.

“Two main components make up the station and allow for a compact look while ensuring there is parking capacity for 96 buses with plenty of room to move.

“The building is comprised of glass-lacquered walls to correlate with its surrounds and ensure sunlight can flood the interior. Furthermore, the maintenance shop is positioned to face away from neighbouring buildings to minimise noise pollution,” Houston adds.
