Portugal has almost 20,000 human embryos on ice

Mystery surrounds the destiny of the country’s stockpile of frozen human embryos. Considering Portugal is at a health care low-point – with state hospitals reporting varying degrees of gridlock and third world scourges like scabies – it is a surprise to hear that the country has almost 20,000 embryos on ice, of which to date only 32 have been used. As Diário de Notícias reports, hundreds have already been “unfrozen and eliminated”.
