Portugal has 5,000 IT jobs “waiting to be filled”

As many as 5,000 jobs are waiting to be filled in Portugal’s IT (information technology) sector, the general director of Microsoft Portugal João Couto has revealed.

And the good news continues. He expects another 900,000 posts will be created in Europe in the next few years.

“It is a sector in which there is no unemployment,” the head of Microsoft Portugal stressed as he renewed an agreement with the government to continue offering special software courses in 30 job centres.

These IT “academies”, as the courses are dubbed, are set up to help unemployed people “improve qualifications and become better prepared to return to the work market”.

The company estimates that 250,000 jobless will benefit from the academies in the next three years.
