For just €10 Portugal is plugging its ‘reusable MOxAD-Tech mask’ now proven capable of inactivating the new coronavirus for up to 50 washes.
The MOxAD-Tech mask has been ‘on the market’ since April, but tests on its brilliance were only announced today.
It comes from a joint collaboration between businesses, academics and the scientific community.
The mask was put through tests at the João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine. It will now go sale on throughout the rest of the EU.
Says Pedro Simas, a virologist at the institute and frequent TV speaker through the pandemic, the tests revealed “an effective inactivation of SARS-CoV-2: 99% viral reduction was observed after one hour of contact with the virus according to test parameters indicated in the international standard”.
“Put simply, these tests consist of analysing the fabric after contact with a solution that contains a determined quantity of the virus, viability of which can be measured over time”, he explained.
The entities involved are textile producer Adalberto, Sonae Fashion, iMM, CITEVE technology centre and the University of the Minho.
