Portugal celebrates landmark return to financial markets

Portugal will be making a full return to financial markets on Wednesday.
The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by the Portuguese Treasury and Debt Management Agency (IGCP) and confirmed by the finance ministry.
Explains SIC television, this will be the first debt auction in 10 years to be made without the back-up of a financial institution. It’s a first, in other words – as even Ireland did not achieve this before the end of its adjustment program.
On the subject of the nation’s exit from the program, finance minister Maria Luís Albuquerque is still playing cards close to her chest.
Portugal will not be announcing how it plans to leave the program next month until at least May 5 – the date of the next Eurogroup meeting.
