Portugal’s tourism sector continues to ride the wave of success, having brought home 26 accolades from the World Luxury Hotel Awards.
While some of the accolades went to hotels voted the best in their respective categories in Portugal, many European and international awards were also received.
Most notably, Faro’s Opus One was voted the world’s top ‘Luxury Guest House’ while Corpo Santo in Lisbon was named the world’s best ‘Luxury Cultural Hotel’.
Europe’s top ‘Luxury Castle Hotel’ went to Bussaco Palace Hotel in central Portugal, while Hotel Faro in the Algarve was named Europe’s number one ‘Luxury Rooftop View Hotel’ and Tivoli Marina in Vilamoura was crowned Europe’s best ‘Luxury Harbour Hotel’. Pine Cliffs in Albufeira was also named the best ‘Luxury Family Beach Resort’ in Southern Europe.
Penha Longa Resort (Penha Longa), Luz Charming Houses (Fátima) and Sintra Marmoris Palace (Sintra) were also awarded on a European level, being named the continent’s best ‘Luxury Family Resort’, ‘Luxury Boutique Retreat’ and ‘Luxury Scenic View Hotel’, respectively.
Four other Portuguese hotels were also distinguished as the best in Southern Europe in their respective categories – Inspira Santa Marta Hotel (Luxury Eco/Green Hotel); Sheraton Cascais Resort (Luxury Family Resort); Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade (Luxury Brand) and Verride Palácio de Santa Catarina (Luxury Palace Hotel).
