The 28th Dynamite Fight Night is a competition the English team of fighters will want to forget as soon as possible – they were beaten by Portugal by a crushing 7-0 margin.
The Pavilhão Arade in Parchal attracted a crowd of 1,000 people last Saturday to see fighters from Portugal and England come face to face in an epic battle. But the Portuguese fighters were in better form.
Very much under the spotlight was Portugal’s kickboxing ‘princess’ Marina Zueva who won the world champion title in the category of -54kg Thaiboxing by defeating South London fighter Grace Spicer.
“I couldn’t have done it without the constant help of my friends and family, and all your support tonight,” Zueva told the crowd shortly after her victory.
António ‘Animal’ Sousa also put on one of the shows of the night, beating David Sa – a member of the Fight for Peace movement – with a KO strike, earning his team two points.
In the other fights, Kátia Pedrosa beat Andrews Charlotte, the ‘Messines Pitbull’ Rui Breceno brought down Jamie Whelan, Miguel ‘Mr Kick’ Varela overcame Huseyin Garabet, and Helder ‘The Prince’ Victor defeated Ashraf ‘The Pocket Rocket’ Uddin.
Bruno Fernandes, one of the promoters of the event, couldn’t be happier with the success of the 28th DFN.
“There were a few delays which are normal in these kinds of events, but all in all it was a magnificent event with a full house,” he told us, and plans are already in place for further fight night events.
The Algarve Resident was the official media sponsor of the event.
