Portugal braced for more mega-waves

Seven districts are on red alert this morning as the country is set for another battering from the sea. Huge waves are expected from Lisbon northwards, affecting Leiria, Coimbra, Aveiro, Porto, Braga and Viana do Castelo.
Issuing the alert, IPMA – the institute of sea and atmosphere – predicted waves of up to nine metres, with the worst of the weather expected until midnight tonight.
Tuesday sees the alert downgraded to orange, in line with conditions expected in Faro, Beja and Setúbal.
Meantime, the weekend’s strong winds are set to continue with 10 districts on yellow alert until midnight today. In some areas, gusts are expected to reach 95 kph.
The 10 districts most affected by today’s winds will be: Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.
