Hotel occupancy nationwide “around 90%”
Portugal is basking in the ‘perfect Easter’: brilliant summertime temperatures and lots of tourists and visitors.
According to reports, all the traditional touristic destinations are registering ‘an increase in the number of people’ to numbers that generally comes at this time of year.
In spite of inflation, hundreds of thousands have ‘chosen Portugal as a destination for these mini-holidays’, says SIC television, citing “the monuments, the temperatures, hospitality – even religious tourism”.
Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Madeira, Algarve – all these places are absolutely heaving in visitors, with tour operators estimating hotel occupancy over the long weekend at around 90%.
Lusa news agency concentrates on the Algarve where an influx of 1.5 million has been projected for this summer season, remarking on how the good weather has “filled the beaches”, bringing welcome trade to local restaurants whose managers agree ‘business is back to pre-pandemic levels’.
Yes, those in the sector are still ‘concerned’ for the future, wondering how inflation might affect the summer. But for the rest of this sun-baked weekend, it’s really just a case of ‘making the most of it’.
