Portugal and islands on “very high” UV alert

Portugal and its islands are on “very high” UV alert today, with IPMA (the institute of sea and atmosphere) advising everyone to wear sunglasses with a good UV-filter, sunhats and lots of sunblock.
The only place where widespread “very high” levels dip are the islands of Horta and Angra do Heroísmo in the Azores – though these are still registering “high” when it comes to UV risk.
As IPMA warns, UV radiation can cause serious health problems if levels exceed ‘safe’.
Meantime, the weather today will be sunshine all the way, with wind getting progressively stronger into the afternoon.
