On their way to winning the UEFA European Championship in 2016, Portugal overcame Croatia in the round-of-sixteen thanks to Ricardo Quaresma’s goal three minutes from the end of extra time. Next Thursday (September 6) Croatia will have an opportunity to redress that defeat when they are the visitors to the Algarve Stadium, Faro.
The match, which kicks-off at 7.45pm, will hopefully see two of UEFA’s three final nominations for the 2017/18 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award go head-to-head.
Juventus new signing Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić are two of the last men standing, as selected by coaches and journalists. The other is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. The winner of the prestigious award will be named during the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday, August 30. The UEFA Europa League Player of the Season will be announced the following day.
Tickets for the game at the Algarve Stadium are still available at €15, €12.50 and €10.
