Portugal and China sign 12 agreements

Trade relations with China got a huge boost from last week’s visit by a delegation of Portuguese businessmen and politicians.
Headed by Portuguese President Cavaco Silva, the delegation came back with at least 12 new partnership agreements under its belt and the conviction that “very positive developments” will follow in the next few years.
Miguel Frasquilho, the head of external commerce and investment association AICEP, revealed that one of the new agreements involves Portuguese bank BES and the China Development Bank.
“The visit went very well indeed,” he told reporters as the delegation returned home on Sunday. “I didn’t find one businessman saying the trip wasn’t worth it.”
In all, around a hundred businessmen representing banks, IT companies, the pharmaceutical industry, food supply companies and other sectors accompanied Cavaco Silva on the trip that took in Shanghai, Peking and Macau.
