Portugal “among most disadvantaged citizens in access to health care”

A new study has concluded that the Portuguese are among the most disadvantaged Europeans in terms of access to health care. National citizens are also among those who pay the most for the health system. Almost 30% of expenditure is financed directly by users at the point of care, claim investigators from Lisbon’s Nova university Eduardo Costa and Pedro Pita Barros in a study that can be accessed here. According to the research the only European countries where citizens are even further disadvantaged in access to health care are Lithuania, Latvia, Greece and Bulgaria.
