PortoBay donates over €47,000 to charities across Portugal

Portuguese hotel group PortoBay has raised, along with its guests, a total of €47,628 in aid of seven charities in the towns where the group’s units can be found.

The initiative, entitled ‘Hope: Small Gestures Big Hopes’, was held for the eighth year straight and always begins with an initial sum donated by the group followed by donations from guests. Since it was launched in 2012, the initiative has already raised over €436,000 for charity.

The Associação Humanitária de Solidariedade de Albufeira (Humanitarian Association of Solidarity, or AHSA) was the chosen charity in the Algarve. The institution provides food, clothing and furniture bank services and psychological and social support to those in need as well as home deliveries. Further responsibilities include supporting the elderly at its day centre.

The donation that was made via ‘Hope’ will help the association improve its food bank services, deliver toys to children, provide even more furniture, carry out improvement works at its facilities and purchase new cognitive stimulation and rehabilitation equipment.

Donations were also made to the Associação de Paralisia Cerebral da Madeira, Núcleo Regional da Madeira da Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro, Associação Humanitária de Solidariedade de Albufeira, Centro de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Infantil, Comunidade Vida e Paz, Comunidade de Sant’Egídio, and Associação Portuguesa de Leucemias e Linfomas.

“Being a part of Hope is bearing a responsibility that is present in the day-to-day life of each of us,” said PortoBay CEO António Trindade.
