Porto has been voted the top place to stay in Europe this year by “Best European Destinations” online portal.
The city received 14.8% of the votes for 20 cities across the continent.
As Best European Destinations declared, “Porto is exceptional in more ways than one.
“It has all the charm of towns that coexist with their river. You can stroll along the Douro, fly over it by helicopter or discover Porto‘s architecture, amazing landscapes and magnificent bridges by cruising along it. Porto is also a sea city and a tram will bring you in no time to Foz do Douro’s gentle beaches.”
It is the second time Porto has won the award. It came tops in 2012, and thus was excluded from 2013’s competition.
Other winners this year were Zagreb (Croatia), Vienna (Austria), Nicosia (Cyprus), Budapeste (Hungary), Madeira (for the first time), Milan and Rome (Italy), Madrid (Spain), and the German capital Berlin.
