Porto airport worker finds $10,000 in coat “left behind on trolley”

The extraordinary aspect of this story is that 25-year-old Bruno Costa was honest. When the young man found a coat clearly left behind by accident on an airport trolley at Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro airport, he did not hesitate.

“I didn’t do more than my job,” he explained afterwards. “I often found things that people have left behind, but I have never found so much money before.”

The owner of the coat, this far unnamed but known to be a Portuguese living in Brazil, is understood to have burst into tears of relief when he heard that his money had been safely recovered.

“I was already in my parents’ home when I realised I was missing the $10,000,” he told Correio da Manhã. “When the police told me to stay calm, I started to cry. I am eternally grateful to Mr Bruno. I never thought I would meet anyone so honest.”

According to CM, the Portuguese émigré worked in the construction industry and had saved the money over the years to help expenses for the care of his seven-year-old daughter.

The story with the happy ending saw him rewarding Bruno Costa with a $300 ‘tip’.

“He thanked me very well,” Costa told reporters.
