Liga Portugal Bwin: Paços de Ferreira 1-1 Portimonense
A combination of bad luck and a man-of-the-match performance from home goalkeeper André Ferreira last Saturday evening left Portimonense still looking for their first win of 2022.
Paços de Ferreira’s first meaningful attack resulted in a 15th-minute corner which struck Lucas Possignolo on the hip on the way past the helpless Samuel in the Portimonense goal for an early setback.
Manager Paulo Sérgio’s men reacted well, however, Ferreira saving well from Nakajima and new signing Ricardo Matos before successfully keeping out a 27th-minute Anderson Oliveira penalty.
After the break, Matos and Carlinhos again went close on several occasions before returnee Welinton Junior finally found a way past Ferreira at the far post following a 91st-minute Lucas Fernandes free kick into the area to draw the match.
Portimonense, who remain in eighth place, next take on Boavista, six points below them in 13th, at their Municipal Stadium this Saturday evening.
Off the pitch, defender Willyan could be on his way to São Paulo in Brazil, where the transfer window remains open, this week, but there is better news regarding outstanding keeper Samuel who has signed a new four-year contract with the Algarveans.
