Portimonense faced Gil Vicente at their Municipal Stadium on Wednesday night in the final and decisive Allianz League Cup group tie and were once again found wanting.
Following a bright start during which Kim Yong Hak hit the post and keeper Kosuke saved a Fran Navarro penalty, the visitors went ahead through Lucas just before half time. Fujimoto and Navarro increased the advantage to three during the second period of play, knocking the Algarveans out of the competition while claiming Gil Vicente’s place in the quarter finals. Portimonense return to league action proper against Casa Pia on December 28.
Meanwhile it appears that the upcoming January transfer window could see a host of leading players leave the Algarve for more lucrative employment. Anderson Oliveira has refused a contract extension, Fahd Moufi has suitors in Italy and German second division side Hamburg have renewed their interest in Felipe Relvas.
