Portimonense: Tuning up

António Folha made a perfect start to his new managerial career as Portimonense romped to a 4-0 win over Scottish Premiership side Dundee FC in Albufeira on Sunday morning.

The training match played over three periods of 30 minutes each saw Andre Clovis, Hackman, Yuta Koike and Wellington make the score sheet with Shoya Nakajima providing the assists for three of the four goals.

Not part of the squad at this stage was new signing Rafael Barbosa. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has only just arrived on a season-long loan deal from Sporting Lisbon having enjoyed a similar arrangement at União da Madeira during 2017/18. He has been joined in the Algarve by 21-year-old left winger José Gomes from Penafiel while Kashima Antlers’ Yuma Suzuki and Porto’s André Pereira are expected to put pen to paper shortly, but Rafa Soares, whose transfer rights were retained by Porto, has signed for Vitória de Guimarães on a four-year deal while little-used Ryuki is returning to Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan.

Meanwhile, the fixtures announced for the coming playing period have Portimonense kicking off against Boavista on August 12 with other stand-out home matches against Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, Braga and Porto scheduled for October 7, January 2, January 12 and April 14, respectively.
