LIGA BWIN: GIL VICENTE 1-2 PORTIMONENSE
Portimonense returned to winning ways in great style with victory over Gil Vicente in Barcelos last Friday night.
Manager Paulo Sérgio’s eleven appeared much better organised than during recent encounters as the hosts came under immediate pressure and fell behind to a 12th-minute Diaby header from a Paulo Estrela corner.
Fran Navarro levelled for the hosts against the run of play not long after, but Luquinho should really have put the Algarveans back in front just before the interval following a perfect back-from-suspension Moufi delivery into the area.
The second half continued much in the same vein, Yago Cariello, Quattara and Estrela all going close until a double substitution with 20 minutes to play proved decisive. The fresh legs of Rui Gomes provided the telling pass for the equally rested Ricardo Matos who finished with aplomb to make sure all three points travelled back south.
Portimonense, now in 7th on 19 points, next take on third-placed Braga at their Municipal Stadium on Sunday evening.
