Portimonense: Missed chances

Portimonense wasted the opportunity to cement their top four place when losing out to an early goal at Vizela last Saturday afternoon despite enjoying over 60% of possession whilst managing 18 shots on goal.

Manager Paulo Sérgio’s team could not find a way past man-of-the-match Fabijan Buntic, the Germany-born Croat keeper proving equal to everything Rui Gomes, Yago Cariello and Bryan Rochez could throw at him with some excellent saves in the 8th, 49th, 68th and 97th minutes.

At the other end of the pitch, Nakamura performed equally well on several occasions to keep the Algarveans in contention, but, at the end of the afternoon, a scuffed 14th-minute Anderson shot proved the difference between the two sides.

This Saturday evening (6pm kick-off) Portimonense will be hoping for luck as well as another good performance as champions Porto visit the Municipal Stadium, an encounter the Algarveans always have difficulties deciding in their favour.

In other news, several sources have reported that new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is interested in expanding the London club’s network of satellite clubs with particular focus on Portugal and Portimonense. Having previously rejected similar approaches from Mexican and Chinese investors involving sums around €40 million, only time will tell whether concrete facts turn out to back up present rumours.
