Liga Bwin: Boavista v Portimonense
Portimonense will return to the scene of their most recent League Cup defeat when taking on Boavista at the Estádio do Bessa this Sunday evening.
Manager Paulo Sérgio fielded a second string eleven for that 2-0 knock-out competition loss, and the outcome should be somewhat different this time around given a full strength side bolstered by some of the most recent quality signings such as Ewerton and Nakajima as well as the return from injury of Fabrício. In fact, with the ‘homecoming’ of several former key players, the team is very much taking on the look of that which competed successfully in the top tier two seasons and more ago.
Elsewhere in the Algarve, Farense, joint bottom of the second division after four matches, have parted company with manager Jorge Costa and appointed long-serving former player and coach Fernando Pires, better known as ‘Fana’, having failed to reach an agreement with intended replacement Lito Vidigal, once in charge of Portimonense during the 2009 season.
Meanwhile former striker Beto has made a successful start to life in Italy, scoring on his debut for Udinese during an international break friendly.
