Portimão’s former Hotel Globo, located in the town’s historic centre with “privileged views” over the nearby Arade River, reopened on Saturday (July 17) under a new name after undergoing a major revamp “from top to bottom”.
Now named ‘WHE Hotel’ after the group that manages it, the 66-room hotel has embraced “technology and functionality”.
“Portimão is a dynamic town and WHE wants to respond to that dynamism, which can be seen in the historic centre. This is a space equipped with technology, located near the beach and in the town centre, where you can ‘Work, Holiday & Enjoy (WHE),” WHE spokesperson Eduardo Lopes said.
Each room is equipped with 43-inch smart TVs with access to over 150 channels and streaming services. Physical keys have been replaced for digital ones, and even the check-in is completed online through a smartphone app.
A buffet breakfast is available to every guest in a room with a “panoramic view” of the Arade River and Portimão’s historic centre, and all toiletries are “ecological and dermatologically-tested”.
The hotel is also hoping to host events and boasts a room for “small groups”, while guests are entitled to discounts when using the nearby Alameda da República car park.
Says the WHE Group, “just two steps away (from the hotel) are businesses, restaurants, boat trips, Praia da Rocha on one side of the town and the beaches and village of Ferragudo on the other side of the river.
“From Portimão, one can enjoy the riverside, boat trips along the river, or visit Ferragudo, the local marina, beaches and the nightlife entertainment of Praia da Rocha as well as the aerial experiences at the municipal aerodrome and the events and activities at the international racetrack,” it adds.
WHE Hotel is owned by Fundo Vega-FCR and is managed by Dunas Capital.
Meanwhile, a “complete revamp” project, expected to be carried out at the hotel within the coming years, is now being developed by architect Sidney Quintela.
