Portimão’s potential as a destination par excellence for business tourism was highlighted to a wider international market during meetings and incentive travel exhibition IMEX’12, held in Frankfurt, Germany this week.
A team from the Portimão Tourism Association attended the event to promote two areas of the city in particular – the Portimão Arena and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
As a worldwide recognised event, approximately 3,500 tourism buyers from over 60 countries attended and were informed about the two Portimão attractions and what they have to offer, placing great emphasis on the international market attracted by the race track.
During the event, Portimão aimed to position itself as a destination that holds the potential to not only satisfy the holiday market but also the business tourism segment.
Through municipal company Portimão Urbis, the city hopes to enter the business tourism market by promoting itself as a dynamic location, geared specifically for hosting large events, business meetings and conferences.
Using the strap line “We offer you a city”, the new venture extends from holding a major business event to dinner on the beach with an attractive social programme.
