A delegation from Portimão council led by mayor Isilda Gomes travelled to Brussels on Tuesday to receive the European City of Sport flag for 2019.
The flag was awarded to Portimão directly by Gian Lupattelli, president and founder of ACES Europe (European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation).
Portimão was named a European City of Sport for 2019 in January and dubbed by ACES Europe as “an example to follow in the promotion of sports for all”. (click here)
Around 350 sports events are already scheduled for 2019 in Portimão and the opening ceremony, “unlike anything ever seen in Portugal”, which will mark the start of festivities, will be held on January 18 at the Portimão Arena.
