This year’s “Corrida Fotográfica de Portimão” will be open to photographers from all over Portugal with organisers saying they have been forced to change the competition’s format due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Labelled “a special Covid-19 edition”, the competition will not be held over one day as was the norm. Instead, photographers must sign up until June 7 and send three photos for each of the four categories – 12 pictures in total – in a JPEG format before June 28.
The categories are Strange Times; Signs of Distance; Places of Hope; and Solidarity.
One of the goals of the event is to document how Covid-19 has affected society and people’s day-to-day lives in different communities, organisers explain.
The photographer with the best collection of photos will win €600, with second, third and fourth places winning €400, €300 and €200, respectively.
There will also be a prize of €200 for youngsters aged 12 to 18 to be spent on an online photography course at ETIC Algarve as well as an additional €100 in photographic equipment.
A jury’s prize of €200 will also be awarded to one talented photographer, with the money to be used on a photography and digital image course at Portimão school CLCC, plus €100 in photographic equipment.
The best photos will later be exhibited at the local museum.
