Portimão in crisis

The newly-relegated west Algarve football club is still being haunted by the threat of extinction.

The official start of the 2011/12 season is scheduled for June 26 and by that time the squad currently consisting of six players in possession of valid contracts needs to be stocked up.

Furthermore, a fifth attempt will be made this week to elect a new president able to give direction (and financial backing) to the stricken club.

Names currently being linked to that vacancy are those of former leader João Cintra and long-time club doctor and city councillor José Dias.
