Poritmão council is going to build a new road linking the local hospital to the EN125 road.
The goal is to make sure there is always easy access to the hospital for ambulances.
As Correio da Manhã tabloid explains, there is currently only one way to access the hospital and it is through the town’s main northern entrance.
If there is an accident, ambulances can get ‘stuck’ in major traffic jams.
The project, which is still ‘work in progress’, has already received thumbs up from the Secretary of State for Infrastructure and Portugal’s infrastructure authority, mayoress Isilda Gomes told CM.
If all goes according to plan, construction should begin at the start of 2018.
