Portimão Hospital is set to introduce parking charges at its three car parks this year.
A public tender has been launched for the concession of the car parking system.
The Centro Hospitalar do Barlavento Algarvio (CHBA) has a total of 1,200 car spaces spread over the three car parks.
José Ramos, president of the administrative council at the hospital, said income from the parking fees will be minimal as the main objective of the measure is to “discipline drivers when parking outside the hospital and also to ensure their safety”. He added that there had been some cases of car theft recently.
Fees will be defined with the tender winner.
