Portimão Hospital closes doors on births yet again

Portimão Hospital has closed its doors on births yet again today meaning mums-in-labour have to travel all the way to Faro, no matter where in the Algarve they set out from. Any emergencies for pregnant women whose unborn foetuses are over 22 weeks must also be attended in Faro. The situation is down to the chronic shortage of obstetricians. Portimão’s mother and baby unit should be reopening its doors at 9am on Monday.
