Portimão held

Well organised visitors Sporting Covilhã enjoyed the better of the first half at Portimão’s municipal stadium last Sunday afternoon, and went into the half-time interval a goal in front thanks to a 42nd-minute Tarcisio strike.

The second half introduction of Fábio Felício then transformed the encounter, rendering Portimonense in complete control following the talented midfielder’s superb 55th-minute equaliser from distance.

With Covilhã now rarely able to venture outside their half of the pitch, Simi and Marcio Madeira in particular should have given manager Lázaro Oliveira a more than deserved victory but were prevented from doing so by combination of excellent goalkeeping and the woodwork.

The 1-1 draw ushered the Algarveans into the upper half of the league table, seven points off a promotion place, ahead of this Sunday’s away trip to lowly Vitoria Guimarães B.
