Portimão firefighters are learning to fly drones – the idea is to see if their use can help make a difference in combatting fires in inaccessible areas, and effecting difficult rescues.
For now, six firefighters are taking a 375-hour course, and more may be taken on in future, depending on the results.
Says national tabloid Correio da Manhã, if deemed useful, the fire station may start using drones in reconnaissance operations – raising the money they will need through EC funding.
