Sorority Dance Crew from Escola Dança Mais in Portimão won first place at “Portugal a Dançar 2022”, the country’s largest dance competition held at Pavilhão Municipal do Luso, Mealhada, on December 4.
There were 29 finalists from a total of 150 dancers from across Portugal competing this year.
Sorority Dance Crew conquered first place with a powerful dance inspired by women’s rights, choreographed by brother and sister Niko and Joana Wirachman.
“The girls danced brilliantly, and we are beyond proud of them. The many hours of hard training and dedication paid off,” said Niko and Joana.
The group will have the opportunity to show the winning choreography at one of the congresses promoted by the UNESCO International Dance Council.
Second place went to dancing duo Joana Maia and Joana Rodrigues from Montijo and third place to Maria Manuel Borges from Lousã.
The “Portugal a Dançar” competition is open to all dance styles and ages.
