Portimão closes one of main exit roads for two weeks

The São José arch in Portimão is undergoing repair works which means that traffic to the São José road, one of the main roads that leads out of the town, is being cut off between 9am and 5pm on weekdays.

The works started on Tuesday (November 5) and are expected to last two weeks. As the arch is located above the road, the road has to be closed while the works are underway.

The road is used mostly by drivers to reach the town’s old bridge over the Arade river, although it can also be used to head into the town centre.

Portimão council says the repair works are desperately needed but that the nearby car parks will continue to “function normally”.
