Portimão bridge reopens in summer

Portimão’s old bridge is to reopen on July 15, according to the Câmara President.

A spokesperson from Portimão Câmara told the Algarve Resident: “Estradas de Portugal, the national highways agency, has informed the Câmara that the original deadline defined by the maintenance company is still the same, so the bridge is due to reopen on July 15.”

Portimão’s bridge was closed in November 2007 following an inspection by Estradas de Portugal which pointed to the danger of an imminent collapse due to the degraded state of the supporting pillars.

According to Lagoa Câmara, the closure of the bridge has affected between 6,000 and 8,000 people.
