PORTIMÃO WILL be hosting the region’s first air festival between April 25 and 27 in the Zona Ribeirinha, the riverside area.
Throughout the three days of the festival there will be acrobatic air performances by national and international teams, including the French Breitling Jet Team, the only civilian team in the world with jet airplanes.
Also, the world champions in air acrobatics, Ramón Alonso from Spain and Svetlana Kapanina from Russia will be performing stunts at the festival.
Each day, between 3pm and 6pm, several teams will take off from the Alvor Aerodrome, including the aero acrobatics team Team Guinot with two Boeing Stearmans and two air ballerinas. Two Portuguese groups called Smokewings and G-Flight will also be performing for the crowds.
Military airplanes will be involved in the festival with an EH-101 Merlin helicopter performing a search and rescue demonstration as well as a Lynx and three Alouette III helicopters.
There will be plenty of activities on the ground for spectators, including flight simulators, a wind tunnel, a climbing and abseiling wall as well as various stalls. An area with inflatables for children to play will also be available.
For more information about this festival, which will be open each day between 11am and 7pm, please telephone Portimão Câmara on 282 470 700. Entrance is free to the festival site.
