Population must prepare for more austerity

A second bailout for Portugal can be expected in the near future, said the leader of Portugal’s largest trade union CGTP.

Arménio Carlos said the likely scenario of a second financial rescue package should serve as an incentive for workers to continue their fight against government measures.

“It is clear that soon Portugal will be requiring a second bailout,” he said and gave workers, the unemployed, youngsters and pensioners a word of warning that more austerity is on the cards.

Arménio Carlos said the population needed to be prepared for what is to come and to fight back with strike action.
