Golf for greys competition at the Pestana Gramacho golf course on February 6 was hailed a success by organisers. The weather was on their side and the course was described as being in “immaculate condition”. Regrettably, it was impossible to accommodate all the players that wanted to participate, however 75 players teed off.
The winner for the men’s prize was Willian Goodwind with 34 points and for the ladies was Nancy Sawyer with 32 points. Both received prizes of free rounds of golf. The €35 entry fee included lunch at a local Portuguese restaurant.
Following this competition, Golf for Greys went to the Penina Championship golf course on February 13 and again was blessed by good weather and a course in “superb condition”. The men’s winner was Alain Delange with 37 points and the ladies winner was Lynn Cook with 34 points. Free rounds of golf at top courses were won.
A spokesman for Golf for Greys said: “The great thing about this championship golf course is that buggies are not necessary because the course is reasonably flat. The reason for this is that when Sir Henry Cotton designed the course it was a mass of rice fields. Also most people do not know that Sir Henry Cotton also designed thePestana Alto golf course.”
Special thanks go to George and Lynn Cook for organising these competitions.
