Over 1,400 euros was raised for the British Legion Poppy Appeal by an auction and dinner dance organised by Algarve Auctions and Salesroom at Barracha, in São Brás de Alportel.
All the 176 items in the auction had been donated and sold, with highlights including a pewter chess set depicting the battle of Waterloo, a model tugboat with detailed equipment and a water colour painted and donated by a disabled former soldier now living in the Algarve.
Over 100 people attended the auction while the dinner dance at Quinta Fonte de Bispo attracted some 50 guests.
Organisers Malcolm Bull and Margo Thorne from Algarve Auctions were delighted with the results. Malcolm told the Algarve Resident: “The auction was more of a social event than a commercial venture, which attracted Portuguese and expats alike, and we are very grateful to all those donors and bidders who took part. The proceeds were handed over to the British Legion at the dinner dance.”
