The conviction that crime was involved in the drownings of their children at Meco beach 18 months ago has led parents of one of the six university students engulfed by waves to the Vatican, where Pope Francis is due to meet them today.
Fernanda and António Soares, parents of 22-year-old victim Catarina, say they hope their audience with His Holiness will give them strength to continue the fight for justice.
The families who lost children in the tragedy are awaiting the results of their appeal against the second archiving of the case. They have made no secret of the fact that they think the former “Dux” of the university – a young man in charge of the ‘pranks’ committee – was responsible for the tragedy.
