Pope accepts request to defrock ‘vanished’ Madeiran priest

Pope Francis has accepted a request from the Bishop of Funchal to finally defrock a priest against whom allegations of child sex abuse stretch back many years. Anastácio Alves is now no longer a priest. PJ police have concluded the latest investigation into his activities and “want the Public Ministry to press charges”. The only problem is that no-one seems to know now where Anastácio Alves is. He appears to have vanished in 2018, shortly after the last allegations against him – for interfering with a young boy – were made.
