Around 20 people protested against a bullfight in Monchique last Saturday.
The event, the second in aid of the local Bombeiros, was criticised by animal activists, including the UK’s animal welfare charity, The League Against Cruel Sports.
Protestors, carrying posters with the words ‘Bullfights and slavery are the same culture’ and ‘Stop animal cruelty’, said they were disappointed that the bullfight had gone ahead when Monchique Mayor had said last year that the event would not be repeated.
Rui André confirmed to the Algarve Resident that the Câmara had not supported this year’s bullfight.
A spokesman for the Monchique Bombeiros told the Algarve Resident that the funds raised through the bullfight had not yet been counted.
