Pong from closed-down Amadora supermarket leaves householders holding their noses

The summer heat has made life in Reboleira Sul, Amadora, quite unbearable for residents near the now closed-down “Pomar” (meaning orchard) supermarket. Far from smelling like an orchard it has been stinking to high heaven, as the bankrupt owner shut the shop without clearing any of the shelves. The result has been a plague of flies and blue-bottles and a truly terrible smell. Nonetheless, it has taken over a year of residents’ complaints for the council to act. According to reports in the Portuguese press, “a team of pest control technicians” was despatched on Monday.
