PSD/Algarve has cut ties with Pedro Castelo Xavier (pictured), its representative in Portimão and a local town councillor.
President of the PSD’s regional division, Luís Gomes, explained that Xavier’s unilateral decision to join forces with the council’s ruling Socialist PS administration had violated party statutes and meant that the councillor had lost the party’s political trust. It is now up to national party chiefs to adjudicate on what Gomes calls Xavier’s “institutional disloyalty”.
