Political battle over Santa Maria obstetrics intensifies

The very political battle over the merits of the obstetrics unit at Santa Maria hospital has reached boiling point today, with a report by the Ordem dos Médicos (Order of Doctors/ General Medical Council) considering that the department poses “serious risks for pregnant women, users, and doctors” and does not have the conditions to continue. “The population must be calmly alerted and properly orientated” says the document that exponentially increases the unit’s future precarity.
